REQUIREMENTS BY 4/9 MONDAY

April 4th, Wednesday is reserved for school-wide charratte.
April 6th, Friday is a holiday. No Studio.

By Next Monday, please finish the following requirements:

  1. Concept Model of your complementary house
  2. Massing Model of your complementary house
  • You may have more than one idea, so make as many as you want
  • You should keep the massing model at a consistent scale
  • You can assume the location, client, and the program of the house

Please finish any incomplete models/drawings/board. You should also REDO your model if it does not have good craftmanship. Same goes for all your other process work.

REQUIREMENTS BY 4/2 MONDAY
  1. March 21st, 23rd, Wednesday and Friday are work days. There will be no lectures. Please use the next 4 days wisely, so that you have all the drawings and materials to laser cut your pieces by Friday 23rd. Show me your progress in studio.
  2. March 26th, Monday is Spring Break. So please post photographs of the model that is due (either 1/16, 1/8, or 1/4) on your Tumblr. This model should have more details than the massing model, in terms of fenestration and structure. Site is also a critical feature.
  3. April 2nd, Monday is when your (refined/revised) concept model, massing model, fenestration/structure model, and FINAL MODEL is due. This final model should have majority of the detail excluding furniture. Furnitures are objects, not spatial components. Not important.
  4. You also have to make at least a massing model of your own house, you are free to do more work. Such dilligence is highly recommended and encouraged.
  5. You have to make a .PDF at 36 x 24 (Landscape) which contains:
  • Analysis Drawing
  • Photographs of all the process models
  • Narrative

ALL YOUR WORK MUST BE POSTED TO YOUR TUMBLR ACCOUNT

Enjoy your Spring Break :) xoxo

REQUIREMENTS FOR 3/19 MONDAY

Required for Monday is:

  1. Your massing model (either 1/32” = 1’-0” or 1/16” = 1’-0”)
  2. Photographs of massing model posted to Tumblr

But also, you should be starting to do extra work so that you can be ahead of schedule. These include:

  1. Digital Model (Rhino Model built accurately to scale, with Grid, Layers)
  2. Revised/Refined Concept Model
  3. Concept Model of your own house
  4. Massing Model of your own house (at the same scale as the project house)

Keep Working, save yourselves from ruining your spring break

REQUIREMENTS FOR 3/16 FRIDAY

Friday, as usual, will be a lecture by Professor Longhi.
It will not take the entire class time, so we will have some time in studio to discuss your progress for Monday’s presentation (of your models)

Thank you for those who attended the tutorial session, I’m sorry if I didn’t cover topics you were expecting, or you were completely lost. Please don’t blame me. :)
Now that you know how to properly scale and print drawings, please practice your AutoCAD and Rhino skills with your own projects. You will not learn these software magically, you have to invest your time. Please do. Be amazing in life.

The model for Monday 19th, is a massing model. If you are putting in details, you are on the wrong path. If 1/32” = 1’-0” is too small for your model, then please use 1/16” = 1’-0”. It depends on the size of your house. So the progression will be either:

  1. 1/32 (massing), 1/16, (fenestrations and structure), 1/8 (detail)
  2. 1/16 (massing), 1/8, (fenestrations and structure), 1/4 (detail)

Don’t attempt to get it right on the first try, expect to mess up and have several models. I think that’s actually great learning experience.

REQUIREMENTS FOR 3/14 WEDNESDAY

Required for Wednesday are:

1. Revised/New Concept Model if necessary (not due, but start)

  1. if your concept model is not clearly representing the parti,
  2. you used the wrong material, scale, form
  3. horrible craftsmanship
  4. you just got a great idea and want to do more work

2. Have supplies ready

  1. Museum Board or White Matboard
  2. Architectural/Engineering Scale

3. Plans, Sections, Elevations of the House

  1. You must know the dimensions of the house
  2. You must find an aerial view with geographical site information
  3. You must know where North is on your site

4. You may start the massing model (but it won’t be your final)

The 1/32” = 1’-0” [Massing] Model of our houses will be due on Monday, 19th

I will do a lecture on Wednesday night, to teach our section. I will teach you how to model your houses in 3D in the proper format. I will also go over the methods on doing sunlight study through a digital model
